Rustic Apple Pie

Makes 8 servings

This recipe is for the busy mom who wants real good dessert real fast. What makes this Rustic French Apple Tart easy to make is the store-bought pie crust. Shh! I won’t tell if you don’t. 😉

I chose apples, but feel free to use pears or even strawberries. Yum!

Different apples to consider using:

• Macintosh

• Pink Lady

• Golden Delicious

• Fuji

• Honey Crisp

• Gala

1 pound of apples, I used Fuji

1 store-bought pie crust ( I used Simple Truth Organic pie crust)

Halal Note: Most pie crusts contain lard, make sure to read the ingredients list before purchasing.

1 tablespoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon arrowroot powder, cornstarch or flour

pinch of salt & enough coarse Kosher salt to sprinkle the crust

Optional: Add coarse sugar to the crust to add additional sweetness

Preheat oven to 400° Fahrenheit

1.) Spread out the pre-made pie crust and transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

2.) Make the Filling: Peel, core and cut the apples into thin slices. Preserve approximatly 4 cups.

3.) Place the apple in a large mixing bowl, and add cinnamon, honey, arrowroot flour (or cornstarch or flour), and a pinch of salt; toss to combine.

4.) Assemble the Tart: Gently place the apples in the center of the uncooked pie crust–leaving 3 inches of space away from the border.

5.) Fold the edges of the dough over the apples–working your way around creating pleats as you go. There is no need to be perfect.

6.) Sprinkle coarse kosher sea salt (not super-fines iodized salt) and Corse sugar around the edges.

Optional: Drizzle the top of the apples with additional honey and polish the edges with honey. This will add a nice sheen to the pie.

7.) Bake in the oven at 400° Fahrenheit for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Cool for 5 minutes on a cooling rack before serving.
